Corporate Social Responsibility in India Introspection

India is a developing economy where industries agriculture, telecom sector, infrastructure are at a developing stage. But after globalization which took place in the year 1991, when the Indian economy was opened up to the world economy and the international companies were allowed to do business in the country and invest in various sectors, the scenario of industrial development has seen a sea-change. When Multinational Companies are allowed by the government, there is bound to be drastic increase in the competition in domestic market. Each company tries its level best to prove itself in the market. They work for profit maximization and profit maximization becomes the very basic for the organizations which are working in the country. But with the change in time and increase in the level of literacy rate, consumers become more and more aware and understand various things happening around them. With these changes another new concept emerges in the market which is called corporate social responsibility (CSR), and each company claims to follow this responsibility. In this paper we are going to analyze how this concept is working in India and to what extent companies are following it for social and economic growth of the country. It shall try to determine the significance of CSR; the activities corporate perform under CSR, its impacts and confluences.

The Emerging of Global Journalism and Social Media

Freedom of information is one of the fundamental human rights, the right of every citizen to express his or her opinion through the written and the spoken word. It is clear today that the technology of communication has revolutionized the spread of information, making it instantaneous and allowing it to reach an ever-widening public. Thus a new power is born, the power of global journalism and social media. What is the nature of this new power? How does it fit into the basic structures and processes of democracy? Should we not recognize the new power as an integral part of our democratic institution? Thus public opinion could more effectively help to shape government and corporate sector policies. Global journalism and a vibrant, free, and independent media play an indispensable role in the healthy functioning of democracy and is a staple of any open society. We rely on the curiosity and skepticism of global journalism to uncover the truth, underwrite the public trust, and hold all accountable. Global journalism becomes an extension of real world communication strategies by allowing enhanced transparency and accountability between stakeholders. This paper seeks to describe the role of global journalism and social media in applying both good political and corporate governance practices as well as identify some problems arising due to global journalism. As societies, we draw our strength from confronting the truth of our own imperfections- and this is the potential benefit when we rely on global journalism to hold us to the highest standards, even when, or especially when, we fall short. There is no freedom without freedom of expression, and global journalism and social media should strive for the highest ideals of journalism: to denounce all forms of injustice.

Today, the difference between the virtual and the real is diminishing. The virtual is becoming real. The best example is Cyber activism, which is identified as a newer kind of activism which conventional protests gets replaced with posting status and sharing one political thought among the cyber users. Before the popularization of new media, agitation takes place by getting down into the streets and protesting using posturing posters on walls, conducting strikes and meetings where a leader speaks to the audience and make them understand the necessity of their protest. But now such a system is completely taken over by a new kind of activism named as cyber activism. Here hour long speeches by the leader is replaced by capsule or character limited tweets or status updates from leaders who until then, were not in mainstream. These leaders even though less known and identified, take the command of power through the weapons of social media. Cyber activism is any strategy that seeks to change the public agenda and include a new topic for social debate by spreading a certain message. This message is spread through a â word of mouth process which is multiplied by electronic communication and personal publishing media.

Usage of Smartphone Apps by Women on their Maternal Life

Mobile phone usage has proliferated in recent years. Few places worldwide people are enjoying speedy utilization mobile phone. Women appear to be taking the lead when it comes to smart phone technology phone use when compared with men. Mobile phones apps make participation possible for women to access the health care they need, including family planning, birth, child care, and survival. This article begins to address the usage of smart phone apps and its role in the everyday life of the pregnant women and young mothers. The overall result of the study reveals that the women in the middle class and lower middle class families use smart phone and its applications more frequently during their pregnancy period for various reasons when comparing to the women in the upper middle class and higher income women.

The Role of Mass Media in Bhutan: Accessibility, Influence and its Impacts

The information and views communicated through the mass media have a great impact on our daily lives, and for Bhutan, this is a new experience. Television and the internet were launched only in 1999 and, thereafter, the Bhutanese public has become increasingly connected with various forms of mass communication. This paper studies how the mass media industry has developed and progressed in terms of the accessibility, influence, and impact on the society. Surveys and interviews were conducted to collect data. Access to information has greatly improved through the establishment of community centers and more newspaper companies, as well as increased mobile phone subscriptions, cable TV connections and internet subscriptions. However, we also found that consumers of the media often felt that their views are not represented in the media. Furthermore, we found that mass media content including advertising influences consumer`s opinion, but did not impact their behavior.
